Company History

Comptoir de Famille is an established French company which creates innovative home decor accessories and furniture inspired by the French countryside. The brand is built around the memories of traditional French family life. Our unique collection of products draw their inspiration from the past, evoking a different time and place. They bring us back to essential values of the family and its traditions that passed from generation to generation. The charm and simplicity of the product line is developed from a variety of creative resources including French flea markets, antiques fairs and family country homes.
The company was founded 20 years ago in France. It distributes its products wholesale and sells directly to the end consumer through Comptoir de Famille retail stores.
Today Comptoir has 30 stores throughout France and Belgium, both company-owned as well as franchises, and sells throughout Europe in other specialty stores.
A US subsidiary was opened in Newport, RI in 2005 by a recent graduate of Columbia Business School, Ludovic Grandchamp, and a seasoned industry player, Pamela Kelley, founder and president of Rue de France, a French home furnishings catalog. Ms. Kelley helped get the company started and remains a close advisor to the business.
As in Europe the brand is distributed throughout specialty stores (see ‘Where To Find Us' section) and through its own stores. The first company store opened in October 2006 on Boston's Newbury Street and the second one in October 2007 at the Natick Collection Mall in Massachusetts.
